Retired South African cricketer AB de Villiers will play for Rangpur Riders in the upcoming season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). A report in CricBuzz stated that the 34-year-old batsman is Rangpur’s second signing outside the player draft, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday. Riders had earlier signed Alex Hales and now with the inclusion of South African cricketer to the side, Riders have a potential top three comprising of Chris Gayle, Hales and De Villiers.
De Villiers, who recently denied reports of a comeback to the national side ahead of the World Cup next year, will be seen playing in major T20 leagues in the next few months. The South African cricketer has already signed for the Pakistan Super League and the inaugural Mzansi Super League, South Africa’s new T20 competition. He will play for Tshwane Spartans, which is based at his long-time home ground Centurion.
Apart from De Villiers, other prominent figures from the cricket arena will also feature in the upcoming edition of Bangladesh’s domestic T20 league. David Warner and Sandeep Lamichhane will be seen playing for Sylhet Sixers. West Indies cricketers Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard will feature for Dhaka Dynamites.
Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim will be the among the biggest local draw in the draft on Sunday.
